Sony Recalls ‘Burn Hazard’ Notebooks

Sony on Thursday voluntarily recalled some of its Vaio line of notebooks.

The Japanese computer maker said 15 reports of overheating have surfaced and one customer who was burned, according to a statement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Sony blames wires positioned near the computer’s hinge and a loose screw for the cause of a short-circuiting problem that produces heat.

“This poses a burn hazard to consumers,” the CPSC statement said.

The company has recalled 73,000 notebooks, including its Vaio VGN-TZ100, VGN-TZ200, VGN-TZ300, and VGN-TZ2000.
