Surverynetwork.com announced Thursday the results of the
2008 1UP Network Automotive Study, a survey conducted among users in the 1UP
Network, a collection of video game publications or websites that includes
1UP.com, Electronic Gaming Monthly, and GameVideos.com.
In a collision of the author’s beats, the study found that
91 percent of video gamers between the ages of 18 and 34 are likely to purchase
a fuel-efficient vehicle for their next car.
Additionally, gamers are likely to pay more for options such
as an MP3 plug-in, GPS, or surround sound.
It’s great to see fellow gamers take an interest in
cleantech, even if it’s for the more self-beneficial reason of saving on gas
money. A problem, though, lies in whether or not gamers are taking a
keen interest in green cars, or if basically everyone within the 18-34 age
group is interested.
Either way, with Tesla looking into a cheaper electric
sedan, and Toyota, Chevy, Chrysler, Honda and many others set to release
electric or hybrid cars within the next two years, the survey shows, to some
extent, that gamers are an important segment to cater to.
