On the face of it, the unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi internet access offered during American Airlines flights seemed like an excellent incentive scheme for the airlines' passengers, but with just a few weeks since the launch it seems that the company may have to impose some restrictions on its 'dirty' customers.
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants has urged the airline to add porn blocking filters to its internet service. Bloomberg is also reporting that there have been many complaints from American Airlines' customers themselves.
Still, as with all censorship restriction, it brings up the same old free-speech-rights argument. Where do you draw the line? I can't help but agree with the American Airlines attendants on this one. The close quarters in economy are bad enough as it is without some kid gazing over and copping a look at the live web cam I have running, on my laptop! Seriously though, this seems like a no-brainer to me. It has to be a matter of civil decency, something which you would think most passengers would adhere to. Of course, I can imagine certain occasions where sound judgment might be impaired; a 'bachelor' trip to Las Vegas, for example, could get a little bit rowdy, especially after a couple of in-flight cocktails.
Hang on... hold your downloads, I have just had an epiphany on how to remedy the tricky situation and hopefully keep everyone happy. How about creating special porn-only American Airlines flights offering all the porn you can watch? I'm sure business class ticket sales on certain routes would sky-rocket, especially with all the 'Big Oil' executives going to hook-up with the Department of the Interior employees in Denver.
Perhaps in lieu of this chartered flight option, the airline could at least cater to its horny porn loving customers by offering a designated 'Porno Section,' much like the old days when smokers were ushered off to the rear of the aircraft to get their fix. Think of the positives, everyone is happy, and as an extra bonus there won't be any complaints, or lawsuits concerning passengers who are inadvertently subjected to second-hand porn.
If the porn filters are activated, watch out for the queues to the toilets lengthening. The inconvenience could potentially get a bit ridiculous.
