Apple Unveils Super-Thin iPod Nano's

The fourth version of the iPod Nano was unveiled today by Apple CEO and Co-founder Steve Jobs. Jobs, looking almost as slim and as sleek as the new Nano, was apparently very energetic and obviously in a humorous mood as the enigmatic CEO borrowed a famous quote by Mark Twain which flashed up on the screen behind him: "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." Obviously a sarcastic joke referring to Bloomberg's mistake in prematurely posting his obituary online last month.

The new Nano will be available in both 8 gigabytes and 16 gigabytes versions and comes in a rainbow of colors. The 8GB version holds enough memory for 2,000 songs and will retail for $149. The 16GB version will hold 4,000 songs and will set you back $199.

Jobs was also happy to show off three new versions of the iPod Touch, which is basically the same device as the iPhone, minus the phone part. The iTouch will be available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB sizes.

Apple also announced a truce with NBC Universal which now means that the TV network will allow its programs to be downloaded through Apple's iTunes system. It is believed that Apple was able to use it's formidable muscle power to reject NBC's request to vary the cost per program download. Apple was able to keep the price to the $2.99 for HD downloads and a $1.99 for regular quality. Some older TV shows will be priced at $0.99

Much of the news was anticipated and despite all the positive energy and enthusiasm it did little to help Apple's stock price which dropped, somewhat like a rock $6.13, or 3.9 percent.

Wall Street had another tough day as the markets in general took another beating as jitters reemerged in the financial sector with Lehman Brothers Holdings losing nearly half its company value dropping a stomach churning $6.36.

The Dow Jones index dropped nearly 300 points, which just means that there could be some bargains out there come opening bell tomorrow, including Apple, for those brave enough to jump back in.
