I know that there have been concerns over the year's with the CEO's health, but this faux pas by Bloomberg is hopefully more than just a tad premature.
The following humorous, though somewhat macabre error was posted by in the news site's obituary section late yesterday afternoon.
"Steve Jobs, who helped make personal computers as easy to use as telephones, changed the way animated films are made, persuaded consumers to tune into digital music and refashioned the mobile, has XXXX. He was TK." Presumably the XXXX were to be filled in at a later date.
Apparently the 'obit' included a big headline in all-caps 'HOLD FOR RELEASE-DO NOT USE'. Bloomberg were quick to realize the gaffe and retracted the posting after a mere 30 seconds, so I doubt Steve even had a chance to read what most people never have the chance to review—their own obituary!
No word on whether the erroneous posting had any effect on the company's stock, but it does draw attention to the fact that there is no 'heir apparent' to the storied Cupertino company which may provide some cause for concern amongst Apple's many investors.
One thing is certain, Bloomberg will definitely need to keep updating this 'posting' as I'm quite positive that there will be many more accolades that will need to be added before Bloomberg have to re-post this one.
