Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN),
the eclectic online store, is providing an added service for gamers. The
company will offer release-date delivery for certain games, namely “Fable 2,”
“Gears of War 2,” “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,” and “Tiger Woods PGA
Tour 09.”
While
Amazon Prime customers will receive release-date delivery for free, other
customers can choose to upgrade their shipping option for $5.98. Considering
the prices (and/or wait) of other shipping methods, along with gas prices,
waiting in line, and the possibility of the game being sold out, $5.98 is a
pretty good deal for those who can’t wait to play a game.
An email
from an Amazon representative confirmed that this is not a one-time deal, but
rather an “ongoing initiative,” and that while it is currently only available
with a select number of video games, the company “hopes to expand [their]
selection in the future.”
“Tiger
Woods PGA Tour 09” is actually currently
available, so the shipping option may not be as relevant. As for the other
games, “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” will be released on September 16,
“Fable 2” will be released on October 21, and “Gears of War 2” will be released
on November 7.
