Feds Catch 38 for Illegal Phishing

More good news out of the courts in LA and New Haven, Conn, as it appears the Justice Department has busted an international gang of cyber-crooks that were bent on ripping off thousands of consumers and countless financial institutions.

The news came as the deputy attorney general was 'visiting' Romania. More than half the 38 people indicted are Romanian. and the scam operation was alledgedly operating of the US, Canada, Portugal and Pakistan.

Phishing scams like this have been difficult in the past to prosecute because of juristiction issues, but hopefully this recent bust is a sign that internet companies and law enforcement agencies are working together and catching up to the 21st century cyber crooks.

As someone that has been through the nightmare of having my ID stolen it is gratifying to think that hopefully, if guilty and convicted, these slimeballs will be sent off to some distant gulag without internet access, or basic cable.

Is there any more room in Gitmo?
