Skype's ground breaking ad campaign features a young Australian writer, Rebecca Campbell, dubbed the 'Nomad' who will be seen travelling the world in a nonstop Jules Verne mode for 33 gruelling days interacting with people from around the globe.
The rules are simple, nonstop Rebecca has to maintain a continuous state of 'perpetual motion' even while she is sleeping and eating—I hope she has a strong constitution and brings a bottle of the pink stuff!
The campaign was developed by ad agency Albion and will track the intrepid traveller as she visits 15 different countries. The premise is that the twentysomething will not be allowed to stop moving and will provide updates on her exploits via her Skype 3 phone and her Nokia Internet tablet. She'll also track her journey on Facebook, Twitter and videos on YouTube. The idea is that feed back via the internet from her travels will influence where Nomad ventures and who she encounters.
This is Skype's first venture into the realm of campaign advertising, prior to that Skype has built its global customer base of more than 300 million users without resorting to such mainstream methods.
