Texting and Walking Pose Threat


Living Streets, a nonprofit neighborhood activist organization, has conducted a survey that found one of 10 injuries has occurred because of texting while walking. The solution? 118118, a British directory assistance company, wrapped the lampposts with a rugby-goalpost-like cushion on the street where the accidents commonly occur. A publicity stunt? Maybe. A solution to the problem? I'd say so. Although, it did look a little ridiculous...

 

 

The bumpers were removed 24 hours later, but the debate rages on. Should such a precaution be put in action permanently? Last year New York State Senator Carl Kruger introduced a bill to ban wearing earphones in crosswalks in New York's large urban areas. The bill was never passed, but he has reintroduced it this year.

For now, I'd say watch where you're going, and look both ways before you cross. Wouldn't want to see you on the YouTube Video Awards...
