Microsoft on Thursday slashed Xbox 360 prices in Japan, a move that comes after a series of U.S. price cuts done last week to stoke demand ahead of the holiday buying season.
The software giant earlier in the month said it would make the cuts in Japan.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite model is getting marked down from 47,800 yen ($448) to 39,800 yen ($373), a difference of 8,000 yen, or approximately $75.
The Arcade version of the Xbox 360 has dropped from 27,800 yen ($261) to 19,800 yen ($186), making it cheaper than the Nintendo Wii, which sells for 25,000 yen ($234).
The price cuts come amid sluggish Xbox 360 sales in Japan. With the exception of the brief spike in console sales following the anticipated title Tales of Vesperia, the Xbox 360 has consistently lingered in the bottom of the Japanese hardware sales charts.
