Search king Google on Wednesday announced the coming release of its Street View application for mobile phones.

Google Street View displays street photos that can be viewed on Google’s web site in different sizes, from any direction, and from a variety of angles.

“We're launching a new version of Google Maps for mobile with the same street-level imagery available on desktop,” the company said in a corporate blog.

The mobile version of the popular web application will have added features such as walking directions and business reviews, “so you'll know if it's actually worth driving across town to that store.”

Google said the new version would also be faster.

The map application will be available for Research In Motion’s popular BlackBerry smart phones, and on other phones equipped with Java capabilities, but it will not work on Apple's popular iPhone.

The news comes as T-Mobile is scheduled to announce the release of an Android-based mobile phone based on Google’s open-source operating system.

The Android phone is expected to be officially ushered in September 23.
