It wasn’t enough for Steve Jobs to revolutionize the music and mobile phone industries.

Apple’s CEO last week showed off the iPhone’s capability as a mobile gaming device when he announced details of the phone's software development kit. Now mobile games publisher Gameloft plans to release more than 15 game titles that use the Apple iPhone software development kit.

The move sets up the Cupertino, California, consumer electronics maker to compete with creators of mobile games devices such as Sony with its PSP and Nintendo on its DS. The games will be available for purchase at the App Store when it launches June 2008.

Gameloft said in its games announcement from Friday that the iPhone promises to be a “revolutionary gaming device” given its 3.5-inch screen and powerful 3-D processor.

France-based Gameloft, traded on the Paris bourse, hopes to follow up on its efforts in bringing mobile games to Apple’s iPod. The company sells more than 200,000 games a day.
