Chart-Track
In a massive collection of video game sales data, market research companies NPD Group, Gfk Chart-Track, and Enterbrain have announced third-quarter software sales totals in the U.S., U.K., and Japan, respectively.
All of the top 5 titles from July to September 2008 are available on Nintendo systems. The top-selling game, Madden NFL 09, is available on the Wii, DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, and even the Xbox. It sold nearly 3 million copies worldwide in the quarter.
The No. 2 spot went to Nintendo’s Wii Fit, with over 2 million copies sold. Multiplatform game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed took No. 3 with over 1.7 million units sold.
The last two games on the top 5 are Nintendo exclusives: Pokemon Platinum for the DS (which is currently only available in Japan) and Mario Kart Wii for the Wii with approximately 1.48 million and 1.47 million copies sold, respectively.
Nintendo shares dropped $0.90, or 2.17 percent, to $40.65.
