Austin, Texas-based games company Challenge Online Games announced Thursday that it has secured $10 million in a Series B round of funding led by Globespan Capital Partners and joined by return investor Sequoia Capital.

 

“This funding will help us accelerate the growth of our business through the development of new games, explore partnership opportunitiesand potentially acquisitions,” Challenge Games founder and CEO Andrew Busey said in a statement.

 

Challenge is the creator of free online games such as Duels and Baseball Boss.

Boss combines card collecting and baseball games, through a multiyear licensing deal signed with Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

 

Duels is a player versus player fantasy role playing game,also through the use of cards. According to Duels’ web site, Duels hosts tomore than 300,000 users.

 

Both games are also short-form and asynchronous, meaning theuser can play in 5-15 minute increments, similar to games you might find onFacebook.

 

The company previously raised $4.5 million in Series A financing in July.
