Message:

Activision Publishing on Monday agreed to acquire Iowa City, Iowa-based video game developer Budcat Creations.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Budcat’s management team has signed multiyear employment contracts, and the company plans to remain in Iowa.

Activision said that Budcat will be working on a new Guitar Hero game, but no other details about the new game have been released.

Budcat has ported Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, and Guitar Hero World Tour to the PlayStation 2. The company also developed the Wii shooter Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy.

Also, Activision sold the assets of game studio Massive Entertainment to game publisher and developer Ubisoft. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Activision had put the company on the block earlier this year after canceling the publication of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. Ubisoft has acquired the popular brand World in Conflict, though there’s no word as to whether or not the company will publish Soviet Assault.
