The 100 winners and 100 finalists were chosen from more than 600 applicants in 16 countries, including India, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Australia, and Vietnam. Red Herring journalists judged companies based on financial performance, technology innovation, management team, and business strategy.

“There was a large pool to choose from and we’re impressed by the caliber an innovative talent bursting from Asia’s business and technology sector,” said Red Herring Editor-in-Chief Joel Dreyfuss.

Winners and finalists were announced Wednesday at the Red Herring Asia 100 conference in Hong Kong. The conference, which ends Friday, features three days of keynote discussions, roundtable panels, and networking events.

Speakers include Richard Li, Chairman of PCCW; John Chen, Chairman of Sybase; Victor Koo, CEO of Youku.com and former President of Sohu.com; James Ding, Chairman of AsiaInfo; and John Hummelstad, Apac Director of Microsoft Ventures.
