AT&T on Thursday said Stan Stigman, chief executive of its Mobility unit, plans to retire.

Ralph de la Vega, who serves as group president of its Telecom and Entertainment unit, has been tapped to immediately replace Mr Stigman, who has worked at AT&T for 42 years. Mr. Stigman plans to stay until the end of the year to help with the transition.

"Stan is one of the industry's most outstanding and accomplished leaders," AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement.

Mr. de la Vega served as the chief operating officer at the wireless unit from 2004 to 2006.
