Mobile games publisher Gameloft on Tuesday announced plans to develop more than 10 games for Google’s Android, the open-source mobile operating system that will be found in the G1 phone.

Gameloft has created mobile phone versions of popular console and PC games such as the Prince of Persia series, Tom Clancy’s SplinterCell series, and Assassin’s Creed.

The company is no stranger to new mobile platforms. When Apple announced the new iPhone, along with the App Store, earlier this year, Gameloft jumped at the chance to develop for them as well.

In addition to mobile phones, Gameloft has also developed for Nintendo’s WiiWare service, the Nintendo DS, Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade, PCs, and the iPod. However, 94 percent of their first-half revenue for 2008 stemmed from mobile games.

Gameloft’s successful hold in the mobile game industry probably has something to do with not being picky. The company has developed over 200 mobile games, which are distributed in over 80countries.

The first game for the G1, Bubble Bash, is scheduled for release in first-quarter  2009.
