Digital River Teams Up With fatfoogoo

Digital River has been carving out a swift path to domination in the e-commerce market.

On Wednesday, Digital River announced a partnership with e-commerce startup fatfoogoo. Under the deal, Digital River has invested an undisclosed amount of equity funding in fatfoogoo.

fatfoogoo focuses on in-game commerce for online games and social networks by providing toolkits to manage aspects such as virtual currency and player-to-player sales. The company does not actually collect payments–that’s where Digital River comes in.

Digital River acquired Netgiro, a payment processor, in 2007; fatfoogoo will now use Netgiro’s back end to work on payment transactions.

While Digital River will help fatfoogoo reach out to larger publishers and developer opportunities, fatfoogoo will complete Digital River’s approach to the e-commerce market.

“There are three driving factors behind e-commerce: sales of a product, driving subscription revenue, and in-game commerce,” said Jeff Hemenway, vice president of games for Digital River

And with the most recent partnership, Digital River now has all three fronts covered.

fatfoogoo specializes in in-game commerce; Think Subscription, which Digital River acquired last year, deals with game subscriptions; and Digital River’s partnership a few weeks ago with Playxpert will provide the product: an in-game toolbar complete with all the above technology to help publishers sell to games players.

If Digital River maintains its current trajectory, it won’t be long before a one-stop shop for any game will become just a click away.
