ngmoco, a video game developer for the iPhone and iPod Touch, on Monday said it raised $10 million in a second round of funding.
The round was led by Norwest Venture Partners and got the participation of return investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Maples Investments. The funding will go toward speeding development and expanding the San Francisco startup’s catalogue of games.
Tim Chang, a principal at Norwest Venture Partners, will join ngmoco’s board of directors.
“The iPhone represents a significant milestone in the growth of the mobile gaming market, and has the potential to be the next mainstream gaming hardware platform,” Mr. Chang said in a statement.
ngmoco has seen success on the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms with the releases of puzzle-adventure game Rolando and puzzle game Topple. Rolando, especially, was spotlighted by bigger gaming sites, and received positive feedback from both critics and users.
At the Game Developer’s Conference, ngmoco CEO Neil Young announced Rolando 2: The Quest for the Golden Orchid for release in June, as well as the release of the tentatively titled Rolando 3 in December. The company plans to support both titles with free level updates.
Mr. Young also touted LiveFire, a first-person shooter built from a modified Quake III game engine.
