Ubisoft Grabs Action Pants

Video game developer and publisher Ubisoft on Tuesday announced that it has agreed to acquire Vancouver studio Action Pants.

The company will be integrated into Ubisoft as an in-house development studio. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are delighted to both establish ourselves in the region [of Vancouver] as well as welcome a fantastic group of experienced developers who can start exchanging with our teams worldwide,” said Christine Burgess-Quemard, Ubisoft's executive director of worldwide production studios, in a statement.

Established in 2006 with the claim, on its site, that it would only develop games that are “innovative, original, and above all – a helluva lotta fun to play,” Action Pants has yet to release a game.

The company is currently working on an original sports title for the Wii, which is set for release sometime in 2009.

Ubisoft recently saw some success with its Shaun White Snowboarding games, particularly the Wii version for its Balance Board utilization.

The company also acquired Massive Entertainment in November, along with the rights to the World in Conflict series.
