Despite a flamed-out global economy, people still need to find a match.
London-based be2 on Wednesday announced a $19 million second round of funding from Index Ventures. Under the deal, Index Ventures partner Dom Vidal will join the be2 board.
Formed in 2004, be2 claims the Internet matchmaking site has more than 12 million members spanning 34 countries. The startup boasts 20,000 new member sign-ups per day. The funding will be used toward international expansion and to boost its user base.
“We look forward to taking advantage of Index’s global network and strength in building big businesses as we take be2 to the next level,” founder and CEO Robert Wuttke said in a statement.
First launched in Germany, be2 has 228 employees at the site that targets a slightly older dating audience whose largest group ranges 30- to 49-years old. The be2 site offers its users instant messaging, blogs, photos, and video chat, among other features at the dating destination.
The dating startup previously picked up funding from BanexiVentures and angel investors.
