Google Chrome Outshines Mozilla

Google’s widely watched launch Tuesday of its Chrome web browser eclipsed interest in Mozilla’s popular Firefox.

“The market share of visits to Google Chrome was higher than to Mozilla on Tuesday,” Heather Dougherty, director of research at Hitwise, wrote Thursday in a report.

The search king grabbed the No. 12 slot for visits in the Internet software category tracked by Hitwise, according to the researcher.

Heavy first-day interest in Chrome came as Mozilla’s Firefox browser ranked No. 19 for the day. Chrome had 79 percent of its traffic delivered from the Google.com site.

Microsoft’s Download Center held the No. 4 spot, according to Hitwise.

Google’s launch of Chrome touches off a new three-way battle of browser wars between the search king, Mozilla’s Firefox, and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
