Zoho Docs: Google Docs Rival Unleashed

Zoho on Thursday unveiled Zoho Docs, an online file management system that cobbles together all of its applications in one place.

The company made the announcement at the Office 2.0 conference in San Francisco.

“Zoho Docs fosters this notion of context-based work by bringing all of a user's content to a single place without having to go to any individual application,” said Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist, in the announcement.

Zoho Docs is similar to Google Docs in that it creates a starting destination and file repository.

The company, which has launched 18 applications, said the new online work space brings together files from its Zoho Writer, a word processor; Zoho Sheet, a spreadsheet application; and Zoho Show, and online presentation program, among other applications.

Zoho Docs supports a variety of file types, allowing people to upload such documents as .zip and .pdf files.

The company, founded in 1996, is based in Pleasanton, California.
