HTC Dream Gets FCC Nod

Taiwan’s High Tech Computer Corp. on Monday got FCC approval for its Dream phone.

The smartphone would be the first to hit the market with Google’s open-source operating system, dubbed Android. HTC’s phone is widely expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2008.

“The phone is expected to go on sale in the United States before Christmas—possibly as early as October,” William Blair & Co. analyst Troy Mastin wrote on Friday in a note to clients.

Equities research firm William Blair makes a market in Google securities.

T-Mobile is expected to be the first carrier to offer the phone, according to analysts.
