There’s plenty of chatter ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference set to run June 9-13 in San Francisco, but so far no word of a keyboard coming for the iPhone on Monday.
Analysts have long predicted and word on the Street continues to believe that second-generation iPhones will deliver 3G capabilities and GPS.
Some are looking for iPhone and iPod Touch software updates and a new MacBook Pro. One analyst even went out on a limb to suggest an Internet device larger than the iPhone could take the stage with Mr. Jobs on Monday.
“We believe there’s a 50 percent chance that a new form factor will be introduced, marking APPL’s entrance into the emerging “MID” or mobile Internet device market,” American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu wrote Thursday in a note to clients.
If that comes true, gadgets sporting 4-inch and 7-inch touch screens—a cross between a Mac and an iPod Touch—could be in the plans. If anyone could make this category of device finally take off it would be Mr. Jobs with his knack for stylish hardware and hype.
Don’t forget there’s also been rampant speculation about iPhone getting a slimmer body and smaller price tag.
Mr. Jobs’ WWDC keynote is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday at Moscone West.
