Moscow-based search startup Quintura has raised “several million dollars” in Series A funding.
Unlike most search companies, which display results as a list of text links, Quintura also allows users to refine results by providing a graphical cloud of associated words around the searched term. When one clicks on another term, Quintura pulls up those web links.
Luxembourg-based Mangrove Capital, an early investor in Skype, Brickfish, and OpenAds, led Quintura’s Series A round. Mangrove was a seed investor in Quintura in late 2006, along with ABRT Venture Fund and OpenView Venture Partners of Boston.
The web links that Quintura.com displays are from Yahoo as of Wednesday morning, though apparently the company can also use Google, MSN, or Technorati results. Quintura also has an image search and a video search provided by startup Blinkx.
The Quintura keyword cloud is supposed to make search easier and faster. Others like Google and Yahoo provide links to “related searches” on their search results pages, but Quintura’s cloud offers a visual way to view that information. Quintura is one of the many search startups aiming to differentiate themselves from Google and Yahoo.
Quintura also said it plans to provide its cloud search results to websites in place of site maps.
