Audi’s Recyclable Car (8 of 9)

By Jennifer Kho

The Volkswagen/Audi Design Center California’s Audi team came up with the Dynamic Space Frame, which it says would be require fewer parts and processes to manufacture, while allowing more flexibility and customization. “The Dynamic Space Frame concept would revolutionize the way cars are designed, produced, and recycled,” according to a studio statement.

The concept would be easier to recycle because the frame—and in some cases, the interior and exterior, would be made of a single advanced material. It would also integrate all fluid and electrical channels within the frame, replace the traditional driveshaft with a hydraulic fluid drive, and include suspension and body components that respond to electrical current to control the ride.

According to the statement, the studio bought wind power from Renewable Energy Choice, and had trees planted through Trees for the Future’s Global Cooling Program, to offset the resources used for the design project.
